FAQs

When should I first see an orthodontist?

The American Academy of Orthodontics  recommends first seeing an orthodontist at age 7. This allows us to catch anything early on that might need to be corrected.

Do braces hurt?

We don’t want braces to ever “hurt”. After certain appointments your teeth may feel sore for a few days, in which case we recommend taking over the counter medication like Tylenol.

What foods do I need to avoid while wearing braces?

When you start treatment with us we will give you full instructions and tips, but there are some foods we want you to avoid during treatment. Some of these include gum, ice, hard candy/food, sticky foods, etc. Avoiding these foods will help you avoid having to come in for repair appointments!

Do I still need to see my dentist while coming to you?

Yes! We want you to continue seeing your dentist every 6 months. In some situations they may even recommend having a 3rd cleaning each year while in braces.

How long should I expect to be in treatment?

Every patients’  needs are different, and every case we do is custom. The average time our patients are in orthodontic treatment is between 12-30 months.

How often will my appointments be?

Appointments vary depending on your specific needs, but typically visits range from 5-10 weeks.

Can I get braces as an adult?

Absolutely! There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. We see many adults and have a range of treatment options to best fit their lifestyle.
